Screen Recorder for Chrome, No Extension
This page is a screen recorder that runs inside Chrome itself: no extension to add and no permissions to grant beyond the share window. Pick A tab to record a tab with its sound, or your screen or a window. Chrome saves an MP4.
Set up for a Chrome tab: the tab, its sound and your microphone.
Why no extension is needed
Chrome has a built-in way for a page to ask to record your screen: the same share window you see when you present in a video call. This recorder uses it, so there is nothing to install and nothing that runs when the page is closed. An extension can read pages you visit; this page can only see what you choose to share, while you share it.
Recording a tab with its sound
A tab is the surest way to get sound in Chrome on any computer. Pick A tab, press Record, choose the tab, and keep Also share tab audio on. You get exactly that tab, even if you switch to another window while it records, and its sound without any other app's.

Questions
Is there a screen recorder built into Chrome?
Not as a button, but Chrome lets a web page record what you share. This page is that recorder: open it, press Record, and choose what to share.
Can I switch tabs while recording a tab?
Yes. The recording follows the tab you shared, not the one in front. Chrome also lets you switch which tab is shared from its share bar.
Does it work in Edge or Brave?
In Edge, yes, the same way. Other browsers built on Chrome usually work too, though their share windows may look different.
Can I record a whole screen instead?
Yes. Pick Screen or A window above. On Windows and Chromebooks you also get the system's sound; on a Mac, see the Mac guide.
